How To Prepare Your Kitchen For A Remodel
Kitchen remodelling projects can be lengthy and require a bit of preparation. It is not as simple as someone diving right in, ripping out cabinets, redoing countertops, and putting down new flooring. Well, it isn’t if you want to save time and money.
After your project has been scheduled, it is essential that the space is cleared out and ready to be renovated. We have outlined seven steps that will help you pack things efficiently and get prepared in a timely manner.
Most of these steps are about unloading all of your kitchen items and packing them away. As we all know, storage can be a very daunting task. You have to figure out how to keep your dishes in one piece, store flatware, and determine which items need to be stored and which you will need immediate access to. If you have ever thought of getting a marble kitchen then see here.
Remove Everything from Floors and Countertops
One of the first things you should do is remove all items from the countertops and floor. For the moment, you can put it in one place and worry about sorting it at a later time.
If there is anything sitting out that is typically kept inside the cabinet, place it where it belongs for now. Cabinets will be emptied at some point.
Take All Decor and Photos Off the Walls
This step is absolutely necessary if your remodelling includes painting. There is a chance that all types of dirt, dust, and debris will come in contact with the items on your wall, so be proactive and move them as soon as you can.
Wrap Utensils in Plastic
Instead of worrying about your silverware collection, it is a good idea to take the entire organizer and cover it with plastic wrap. If that is not an option, you can place them in large plastic bags. Keep in mind that these bags can puncture rather easily, so you have to be careful when handling them.
Knives should be placed in a separate container to reduce the chances of anyone being injured.
Use Disposable Flatware During the Remodel
If you have a kitchen renovation happening, you do not want to go in and out of that space too often. Using ceramic dishes means that they will need to be washed. Instead, you should purchase disposable dishes. Once you are done they can be thrown in the trash while your regular dishes are tucked away safely.
Gather Boxes and Masking Tape for Storage
When it is time to start packing, it is best to be fully prepared. You will most likely need some boxes and masking tape. It would also be a good idea to have garbage bags available for items that are not particularly fragile.
Sort Items You Will Need To Have Handy
All of the items that you use frequently will need to be accessible. This could be anything from a coffeemaker to a convection oven. Whatever you use often should be placed in the corner of the room.
Remove Food From Cabinets
If you are removing and installing cabinets, there will be a lot of extra work to do. You should begin with dry food and non-perishables. Ideally, you should find a place where all of your food items can be kept together.
